A man has been jailed for six years after being found guilty of killing his girlfriend's 10-month-old baby by fracturing his skull.
Ryan Ledger, 20, of Wigston Road, Walsgrave, Coventry, was convicted of manslaughter but cleared of murder at Birmingham Crown Court.
Cameron Wootton was injured last May at his home in Navigation Way, Coventry, and died two days later in hospital.
A post-mortem examination found a 8.6in (22cm) fracture on his skull.
He has not yet had a funeral because of the trial.
Because Cameron was my life, there's nothing worth looking to the future for
Stacey Jackson, Cameron's mother
Mrs Justice Macur told Ledger: "It's quite clear that Cameron was a delight to all of his family and to all of those who came into contact with his family.
"He brought them much joy and at his age he could have expected to be protected."
She added that Ledger was immature and feckless and was ill-suited to take on a parental role.
The post-mortem examination on Cameron also showed he suffered bleeding behind his eyes.
'Heart ripped out'
The prosecution told the trial it was believed Ledger had killed Cameron by striking his skull against a hard surface.
After Ledger's conviction, victim impact statements taken from Cameron's parents were read to the court by prosecutor Mark Wall, QC.
Cameron's mother Stacey Jackson, 18, said she now found it difficult to see other people with their own children.
She said: "Because Cameron was my life, there's nothing worth looking to the future for."
The boy's father, Anthony Wootton, said in his statement that he felt his "heart had been ripped out" by Cameron's death.
